ANALYSIS PERFORMED BY BECKY CANNING

1. Overall, how do geographic areas within your county compare on the consequence data rates? Do any stand out as high or low? Discuss differences.

ALCOHOL:

Those cities that have the lowest compliance rates are American Fork at 82%, Payson at 86%, Provo at 86%, Spanish Fork at 87%, Salem at 87.5% and Lehi at 87.5%. All other cities have rates of at least 88% or higher.

The number of alcohol sales per 100,000 people showed different results. Payson came in the highest followed by Salem, Springville, Spanish Fork and American Fork.

2. Do you think the data accurately reflect the related problems in the community? Why or why not?

ALCOHOL: This data accurately reflects the stores that have sold to the county’s underage buyer. It however, does not take into account the time of sales.

Generally the underage buyer does not attempt to purchase after 7:00pm. There may be more sales that happen in the later hours. This is a potential weakness of this data.

3. What does the trend data available for the consequences suggest in the different geographic areas? Is the problem increasing, decreasing, or staying the same? Discuss differences and patterns.

ALCOHOL: In most cities, the compliance rates have increased over the years, meaning that more stores are not selling to the underage buyer. Some cities have decreased, Payson seeing the most significant drop of a high in 2006 of 94.4% to a low in 2008 of 78.6%. Spanish Fork has also seen a drop: 97.9% in 2006 to 86.1% in 2008 and Lehi, from 90.9% in 2006 to 82% in 2008.

4. Do the consequences in some geographic areas appear to be more of a problem than in others? Why?

ALCOHOL: It again seems that the south end of the county is most affected in both sales per 100,000 and also in compliance rates.

5. Are there differences in patterns of consequences between age groups?

ALCOHOL: NO DATA AVAILABLE

6. Are there differences in patters of consequence between gender?

ALCOHOL: NO DATA AVAILABLE

7. Are there differences in patterns of consequences between age and gender and location?

ALCOHOL: NO DATA AVAILABLE
